BOOST: Yankees Make Roster Moves: Ottavino Designated for Assignment, Replaced by Fan Favorite

April 4, 2025 – The New York Yankees have made a couple of roster adjustments as they continue to manage their bullpen depth early in the season.

In a move that won’t come as a surprise to many, the Yankees have designated 39-year-old right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino for assignment, just days after signing him to a major league contract. Ottavino, who pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in his brief stint with the team, was initially brought in to fill in while closer Devin Williams was on paternity leave. Despite his age, Ottavino showed decent command and composure during his appearances, but his role was always expected to be temporary.

With Williams now officially back from his leave, the Yankees have shifted their focus back to their bullpen’s regular structure. The 29-year-old closer made his season debut against the Brewers, allowing two hits and an earned run in one inning. Even with the rough outing, the Yankees remain confident in Williams as one of the most effective closers in baseball. His changeup and strikeout abilities are expected to anchor the bullpen throughout the season.

As for Ottavino, while he is temporarily off the roster, there is a possibility he could return later in the season if the bullpen faces injury setbacks or struggles. For now, the Yankees are looking to build on their bullpen’s rhythm with Williams back in the mix.

Stay tuned as the Yankees continue to adjust their roster to meet the challenges of the 2025 season.
