LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon has secured a commitment from 6-foot-6 guard Max Mackinnon, a standout from Portland, marking the fourth addition from the transfer portal.
Mackinnon, who previously played for Elon, was named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team after averaging 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. He impressed with his shooting, hitting 46.7% from the field, 40.7% from beyond the arc, and 88.7% from the free-throw line.

A native of Brisbane, Australia, Mackinnon had a breakout performance this season with a career-high 43 points in a win over San Diego. He joins a growing list of offseason additions to McMahon’s roster, including UNLV’s Dedan Thomas, Northeastern’s Rashad King, and Mississippi State’s Michael Nwoko.
Mackinnon’s arrival comes as LSU looks to rebuild after a challenging season, finishing 14-18 overall and 3-15 in the SEC.
