BREAKING: Nation’s Leading Scorer Ta’Niya Latson Commits to South Carolina

Latson, who averaged 25.2 points, 4.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game last season, chose South Carolina over powerhouse programs including Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, and North Carolina. Her decision immediately elevates the Gamecocks’ title hopes for next season.

“Feelin’ cocky!” Latson posted on X (formerly Twitter), signaling her excitement to join the reigning national runner-up under legendary coach Dawn Staley.

Latson’s move reunites her with several familiar faces. She played high school basketball in Florida alongside Raven Johnson and competed in AAU circuits with MiLaysia Fulwiley and Joyce Edwards, all now standout players for South Carolina.

Her arrival comes as the Gamecocks prepare for the departures of key seniors Te-Hina Paopao, Bree Hall, and Sania Feagin, who are no longer eligible to return. Coach Staley wasted no time rebuilding her roster, securing Latson, ESPN’s No. 1-ranked player in the transfer portal, to spearhead the team’s next run at a national title.
