In a powerful offseason addition that’s already sending shockwaves through the American Athletic Conference, Rasheed Reason—the dynamic cornerback who proudly wore jersey number 6 at Old Dominion University—has officially transferred to East Carolina University (ECU). This headline move is set to immediately elevate the Pirates’ secondary and inject both veteran leadership and proven playmaking into their defensive backfield.
Standing at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, Reason is not just any transfer—he’s a seasoned defender from Vallejo, California, known for his toughness, field vision, and relentless pursuit. His track record speaks for itself: in two seasons with ODU, Reason appeared in 23 games, started 16, and totaled 83 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions. In 2024 alone, he started every game, recording 49 tackles and four key pass deflections, cementing himself as one of the Sun Belt Conference’s most dependable corners.
Originally considering the NFL Draft following a strong 2024 campaign, Reason chose instead to use his remaining year of NCAA eligibility—made possible by his junior college background—to continue refining his game. The decision to join ECU reflects not just a desire to compete at a high level, but a belief in the Pirates’ defensive rebuild under new cornerbacks coach Tarron Williams.

“Reason is a lockdown corner with big-time potential. He’s battle-tested and fearless in one-on-one matchups,” said a source close to the ECU program. “This is the type of player who can flip a game with one play.”
Reason’s signature jersey number 6 became a symbol of shutdown coverage during his time at ODU. While it remains to be seen if he’ll wear the same number at ECU, fans are already rallying behind the transfer as a centerpiece of the Pirates’ 2025 defense.
This move comes as ECU aims to revamp its defensive unit, which struggled at times last season to contain opposing passing attacks. With Reason’s arrival, the Pirates add not just a capable starter, but a leader who thrives under pressure and understands how to anchor a secondary.
As he prepares to arrive on campus this summer, the anticipation is building in Greenville. With fall camp around the corner and a new season full of potential ahead, Rasheed Reason’s transfer is being hailed as one of the most impactful in ECU’s recent memory.
