Stuart Fairchild’s brief and rocky stint with the Atlanta Braves appears to be nearing its end — and a familiar team may already have his next chapter lined up.
With Ronald Acuña Jr.’s return from injury imminent and Jurickson Profar’s suspension winding down, the Braves will soon be pressed to trim their outfield. Fairchild, who has struggled to make an impact since being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds, is widely expected to be the odd man out.
Now, it appears the Reds have been anticipating this moment all along.
According to team insiders, Cincinnati has quietly laid the groundwork for Fairchild’s potential return, with June 1 being circled as the likely date he departs Atlanta and finds his way back to the team that drafted and developed him. Sources suggest the front office has had ongoing internal discussions about bringing him home, and the coaching staff has already begun planning where he could fit into their current roster.
Fans in Cincinnati have caught wind of the buzz as well, with social media lighting up in recent days about a possible Fairchild homecoming. From the dugout to the stands, the sentiment is clear — the Reds are ready to welcome him back.

Fairchild’s tenure with the Braves, though short, was not without effort. Acquired in a quiet trade after being DFA’d by Cincinnati, he was brought in primarily to face left-handed pitching and provide speed. Unfortunately, he’s managed just three hits in 29 at-bats (.103) with a .368 OPS — including a 2-for-18 line against lefties.
With Acuña expected to be activated around May 23, Fairchild’s role becomes increasingly obsolete. Eli White has performed well in his opportunity, while Alex Verdugo and Luke Williams provide more versatility and production off the bench.
Though his Atlanta chapter may be closing, Fairchild appears to have a new home — or rather, an old one — awaiting him in Cincinnati. For a player still capable of contributing with speed and defense, a return to where it all began may be just what he needs to reset and reignite his career.
June 1 is fast approaching — and in Cincinnati, the welcome mat is already out.
