Official: Rangers Reignite Partnership with Twins in Pursuit of Playoff-Caliber Talent Across the Roster Ahead of 2025 Deadline

The Texas Rangers have made a decisive move in the days leading up to the 2025 MLB trade deadline, officially completing a multi-player trade with the Minnesota Twins that signals their all-in mentality for another deep postseason run.

In a deal finalized Monday evening, the Rangers acquired elite relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax, along with slugger Kody Clemens and defensive standout Harrison Bader, in exchange for a package of top-tier prospects including Brock Porter, Cameron Cauley, and international outfield talent Anthony Gutierrez.

The trade marks a renewed collaboration between two front offices that last worked together in minor league player development, and now reconnect with massive postseason implications on the line.

Duran and Jax Bring Firepower to Texas Bullpen

With bullpen instability plaguing the Rangers throughout the first half of the season, Texas acted aggressively. Jhoan Duran, known for his triple-digit fastball and wipeout breaking stuff, has already racked up 15 saves this season with a 2.45 ERA for Minnesota. He immediately becomes the likely closer in Arlington and is under team control through 2027.

Griffin Jax joins him as a dependable late-inning righty. Boasting 65 strikeouts in just over 40 innings, Jax carries a 3.12 ERA and offers a strong setup option for high-leverage situations. Both relievers significantly bolster a Rangers bullpen that ranked among the AL’s worst in blown saves.

Texas Adds Offense and Flexibility with Clemens and Bader

Beyond the bullpen, the Rangers also added valuable position players. Kody Clemens, though hitting just .216, has posted a .507 slugging percentage with 12 home runs. A left-handed bat with defensive versatility, Clemens offers pop off the bench and a capable fill-in at second, third, or first base.

Meanwhile, Harrison Bader brings Gold Glove pedigree and postseason experience to the Rangers’ outfield. With a .249 average, 11 homers, and 34 RBIs this season, Bader adds both speed and defense—traits the Rangers believe will prove vital come October.

Rangers Front Office Speaks Out

“We believe we’ve added impact talent on both sides of the ball,” said Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young in an official team release. “This group not only improves us immediately but gives us flexibility and postseason poise—exactly what we need to finish strong.”

The trade cements Texas as a buyer and a serious contender in the AL once again. After winning the World Series in 2023 and returning to the playoffs in 2024, the Rangers are now positioned to make another deep October run with added firepower and depth.

What’s Next for Texas?

With the deadline still days away, Texas may not be finished dealing. But this move—reigniting a trade partnership with the Twins—already stands as one of the biggest statements of the 2025 season. The Rangers aren’t just chasing another playoff spot; they’re chasing a title.
