“Welcome to Fatherhood”: Top MLB Superstar and Fan Favorite Finally Becomes a Father, Welcomes First Child with Wife

Baseball’s global icon and fan favorite, Shohei Ohtani, has officially entered fatherhood.

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar and reigning National League MVP has welcomed his first child with his wife, Mamiko Ohtani, marking a heartwarming new chapter in the life of one of sports’ most beloved figures.

Ohtani, 30, was placed on the MLB paternity list earlier this week and did not travel with the Dodgers for their weekend series in Texas. Fans had been eagerly anticipating the big moment — and now, it’s here.

Messages of congratulations have poured in from around the league, with players, coaches, and fans alike celebrating the joyful news. “Welcome to fatherhood,” wrote several fellow MLB dads in tribute posts across social media.

Ohtani’s teammates were also thrilled. “We’re so happy for him,” said manager Dave Roberts. “He’s a great teammate, a great man — and now, a great dad.”

The Ohtanis have kept most details private, but Shohei had previously shared a glimpse of their growing family earlier this year, posting a photo of their dog Decoy next to a pink onesie to announce they were expecting.

The news comes just over a year after Ohtani revealed he had quietly married Mamiko, a former professional basketball player. Together, they now celebrate the beginning of a new journey.

Ohtani, who signed a historic $700 million deal with the Dodgers in late 2023, has continued to impress this season at the plate while rehabbing from elbow surgery. But this week, the only stat that mattered was 1 new addition to Team Ohtani.

From MVP to MVD — Most Valuable Dad — Shohei’s legacy continues to grow, on and off the field.
