In a heartfelt decision that thrilled Husky Nation, Alex Karaban has announced he will return to the University of Connecticut for one final season, officially withdrawing from the 2025 NBA Draft.
The veteran forward made the announcement Tuesday morning on social media, expressing gratitude for his journey and a strong desire to finish what he and his teammates started.
“UConn is the only place I feel at home,” Karaban wrote. “This program, this community — it’s shaped me into who I am. After discussing things with my family and coaches, I’ve decided that I’m not ready to leave it behind. We have unfinished business, and I’m coming back to chase another championship with my brothers.”

Karaban’s return is a massive win for head coach Dan Hurley and the defending national champions. A two-time NCAA title winner, the 6’8″ Southborough, Massachusetts native averaged 14.3 points per game last season and earned Second-Team All-Big East honors. His versatility, shooting, and leadership will once again anchor UConn’s frontcourt.
This marks the second straight offseason Karaban has tested the NBA waters before choosing to return to Storrs. This time, however, he’s made it clear: this will be his final ride.
With the hashtag #LastDance attached to his announcement, Karaban’s return sets the stage for another championship push — and a chance to leave as one of UConn’s all-time greats.
