Trade chatter around the NHL is intensifying, and the New York Rangers are now at the center of it, reportedly pursuing a major move for Cam Fowler, the Anaheim Ducks’ veteran defenseman signed to a long-term $64 million contract.
Fowler, who signed his eight-year deal in 2018, has four seasons remaining at a $6.5 million annual cap hit. Despite the Ducks’ rebuilding status, the 32-year-old has maintained steady production and leadership, making him a coveted target for playoff contenders.

Sources indicate the Rangers are in advanced talks with Anaheim to acquire Fowler and slot him into their top-four defensive unit—an area that has shown some inconsistency behind Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba. His puck-moving skills and playoff experience would provide an immediate upgrade, especially as New York eyes another deep postseason run.
According to insiders, General Manager Chris Drury is still working through the final components of the trade package, which could include a mix of draft picks and young players. More notably, negotiations have expanded to include potential contract modifications or an extension, as both sides reportedly see the move as more than just a rental.
If completed, the deal would reunite Fowler with several familiar faces from Team USA and provide the Rangers with one of the most balanced blue lines in the Eastern Conference.
With the 2025 playoffs approaching fast, all eyes are on Madison Square Garden as New York tries to finalize a blockbuster deal that could shift the power dynamic in the East.
