MAJOR BOOST: Rangers Select Top High School Talent JoJo Parker Despite Positional Concerns in First Round of MLB Draft

The Texas Rangers added a high-upside bat to their farm system, selecting high school shortstop JoJo Parker with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Parker, a standout from Purvis, Mississippi, had been linked to the Rangers in several mock drafts leading up to draft night, and Texas followed through by making him their top selection. Known for his advanced bat and raw athleticism, Parker brings serious offensive upside to the organization—even as questions persist about his future defensive home.

While Parker was announced as a shortstop, many scouts believe a position change may be inevitable. His strong arm gives him a shot to stick in the middle infield, but average range and foot speed could push him to third base as he develops. That transition may take time, especially since Parker has yet to display consistent power that’s typically expected from corner infielders.

Still, the Rangers appear confident in his overall potential. Parker impressed scouts this spring with his ability to drive the ball in the air and showed flashes of gap-to-gap power that could blossom as he matures physically.

Committed to Mississippi State, Parker faced a decision between turning pro and pursuing college ball, but the Rangers’ offer was reportedly strong enough to convince him to sign and skip college—despite the growing influence of NIL deals.

Parker now joins one of baseball’s most respected player development systems, and the Rangers are hopeful he’ll become a key contributor in their next wave of young talent.
